Welcome to Clay Explorers, a hands-on workshop designed for beginners eager to dive into the captivating world of ceramics! This comprehensive course is your gateway to discovering and mastering the fundamental techniques of clay artistry. Whether you’re fascinated by the tactile nature of clay or curious about the rich traditions behind pottery, this workshop will guide you through an exciting creative adventure.

What You’ll Learn:

  1. Pinch Pots: Begin your clay journey by learning the art of pinch pots. This technique, which dates back thousands of years, allows you to shape clay by pinching and molding. Perfect for creating small, unique pieces, pinch pots are a great introduction to the texture and versatility of clay.
  2. Coil Building: Discover the ancient technique of coil building, where you roll clay into long, snake-like coils and stack them to form intricate and functional pottery. This method helps develop your skills in hand-building and gives you the freedom to create larger and more complex forms.
  3. Slab Building: Explore the slab building technique, which involves rolling out flat sheets of clay and assembling them to create geometric and organic shapes. This method is ideal for crafting everything from decorative tiles to functional vessels.
  4. Wheel Throwing: Get hands-on experience with the pottery wheel, a time-honored tradition in ceramics. Learn the basics of wheel throwing, including centering, pulling, and shaping the clay to create beautifully symmetrical pieces.
  5. Trimming: Master the art of trimming, a crucial step in refining your wheel-thrown pieces. Trimming helps you achieve the perfect balance, shape, and finish for your pottery, ensuring that each piece is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Duration: 4 weeks – class meets twice a week – either Tuesday?thursday or Wednesday/Friday for 2 hours. We need a minimum of 6 students per class. Student will be contacted before the first session to let them know if the class will run.
