Try a peaceful start to your holiday season this year with a blackout meditation workshop in our beautiful new community art studios. Skip the holiday crowds (or recover from your early morning shopping) and join our program director Deb to learn this affordable and calming art.
Deb will gently guide you through the relaxing art of blackout meditation. What is that? It’s an art form I invented many decades ago, a mash up of blackout poetry, doodling and occasionally some drawing & coloring.
This session will cover the how-to-get-started basics, along with a few different techniques you can use to take your blackouts to the next level. Absolutely NO prior art experience needed!
All participants will receive a bonus holiday stencil to use in the workshop and take home.

Pearl City Clay House is excited to announce a series of FREE community workshops at the Prendergast Library, funded by the Murray L. Bob Educational Initiative.
The third of these workshops, blackout meditations, will take place on September 13th

Before the class you will need to assemble a few simple supplies:
A pencil and eraser,
a book you are willing to use to write on/in,
a sharpie or two (I use an ultra fine point and a regular fat sharpie most of the time)
In addition its nice to have – but not essential –
a white gel pen – Posca pens, uniball or jellyroll pens are all great choices
some colored pencils and/or markers
a small set of alphabet stamps & an ink pad
Stencils that fit the size of your book (or smaller)
Session will be recorded for students who cannot join us live.

This workshop will kick off a mini intensive, four book-binding workshops running on consecutive nights, take one or join us for them all, for an introduction to the art of books. In this workshop we will learn a simple pamphlet stitch binding, and then explore ways to use it to make more complex structures, including this fun mixed media journal from a recycled hardback book. This structure requires very minimal tools and you will get a complete supply list when you register.
