wheel pioneers

This session is focused on getting to know a little more about throwing on the wheel – if you have already attended a wheel explorer event – but are not sure you are ready to commit to a 6 week class, this is the perfect in-between fit! If you haven’t ever tried the wheel – no worries – this will work for you too.

Over the course of four weeks you will learn to throw some pots, select and trim the best candidates for firing, and glaze your own work, all with the help of our friendly clay team. Haven’t ever tried the wheel, or its been years? This course is aimed at helping beginners have a successful first experience.

Class meets July 8, 15, 22, 29.

quick clay – spoon rest

New this month – a series of quick, one hour projects for only $10 each. Join different members of our instruction team to make a small project using a hand building technique.

Looking for a small hand made Mother’s Day gift, or a hostess or house warming present? How about joining us to make spoon rests and/or soap dishes this week. We will provide a clay slab, you can shape, texture and sculpt to your heart’s content. At the end of class, pick out your glaze color(s) and leave the rest to us – we will bisque fire, wash, wax and glaze your project, than fire it one last time. Projects will be ready for pick up by May 12th just in time for Mother’s Day.

Very limited seating – reserve your spot by clicking here.

luminaries workshop

Join Darcie in the studio to create a beautiful luminary from a slab, add texture and decorate, before glazing them, ready to head into the kiln. The only limit to your design is your imagination!

Working with clay can be messy! We strongly recommend an apron and a non-terrycloth towel or bandana for wiping your hands clean.

clay explorer

Join one of the clay team in the studio to learn some hand building skills. In this explorer session you’ll learn how to use our clay extruder and hand build using coils. Coil building is probably one of the oldest ways of making a ceramic vessel, and you will be able to use your imagination to take this ancient technique and make something unique. The small group size will give you plenty of opportunity to learn from our expert.

wheel explorer

Join one of the clay team in the studio to explore the art of throwing on the wheel. This short session is a brief introduction to the wheel and will include how to prepare your clay for the wheel, how to center and cone the clay, and how to begin throwing a vessel. Students will follow along with the instructor and the small group size will allow for lots of one on one feedback. At the end of the session participants can select their favorite attempt to preserve. Your instructor will finish your vessel and our team will glaze it and notify you when it is ready to pick up.

Throwing on the wheel can get messy, we recommend you bring an apron, and a non-terry cloth towel/bandana for wiping your hands. It is also much easier to learn how to throw with short fingernails.
