beginning embroidery (evening 2)

You asked – we listened! After our really popular visible mending workshop many of you reached out to ask for a follow-up embroidery class. Join our program director Deb Eck, who has been sewing since she was a small child, for this beginner level class. Never picked up a needle? No problem. This workshop will cover all the basics of thread, needle and fabric selection, how to mark out your fabric and transfer patterns, and of course, introduce a range of starter stitches you can build upon to create a contemporary sampler.

Thanks as always to our wonderful pop-up partner, ARTCloth + Craft, for letting us use their pretty space again while we wait for construction to wrap up.

The workshop includes all materials and supplies and will take place over two evenings – March 23rd and 30th from 6-8pm.

Seating is limited. To sign up head to the listing for the first evening HERE

Beginner Embroidery 1 – daytime session

February is International Embroidery Month and we are celebrating all month long here at Pearl City Clay House. Join us for one of our introductory classes, or at our celebration of stitching meet up at the end of the month.

This introduction to hand embroidery workshop will focus on straight stitches executed in lines or grids. It is suitable for complete beginners with no embroidery or sewing experience. If you have always wanted to give embroidery a try, these basic stitches are a great place to begin.

Deb, our program director and sewing aficionado will share her tips and tricks for making a simple sampler. We will start with how to lay out your design, then learn some simple basic stitches, along with ways to combine and customize the stitches into more elaborate patterns.

Participants will need the following supplies:

  • a 6″ embroidery hoop
  • a piece of plain cotton (any color is fine) about 8″ square
  • 2 or 3 skeins of embroidery floss in coordinating colors
  • a embroidery needle
  • small scissors
  • a fabric marking pen
  • a piece of plastic canvas
